One of a mother's most important tasks was to protect her children from danger. This was difficult in the
19th century. Look at the picture above and make up a story about what is happening.
With older students, you can practice adding details to the story: the name of the child, the color of the
horse, where the story takes place, or what happened when the mother arrived.
With younger students, you can practice sequencing the story. Which came first? The child wandered
away from his mother or the child pulled the horse's tail?
